GLASTONBURY — After decades of dissatisfaction with the “open plan” design of the second floor of the Naubuc Elementary School on Griswold Street, the school system is moving forward with efforts to rework the space into conventional classrooms in which students will be less distracted by noise from neighboring rooms.
Albert Costa, the school system’s director of operations and maintenance, on Monday evening presented a preliminary plan for the work to the Board of Education.
It would substitute ordinary walls for the portable partitions, partial-height fixed partitions, and furniture and similar items now used to delineate classroom spaces. That, in turn, would require changes in numerous other building systems, such as heating, ventilation, and…
