Makerspace to have its first prototype patented

Local inventor Josh Lotts holds the 'ZRO trigger' he invented to be used with certain RC vehicle controllers  during an interview at Staunton Makerspace on Wednesday, Dec. 9, 2015.

STAUNTON – Josh Lotts may look like a simple cowboy, with his large hat and country accent.

Underneath that brimmed hat is a brain swirling with ideas.

“I was curious as a small kid, the first thing I remember is taking something apart to see how it worked,” he said.

Lotts has invented a small insertable finger trigger to go on the remote control for RC cars. The trigger is made from a ball bearing that swivels and has a better grip, allowing the user to have a better control of speeds.

The invention allows for precision, a thing racers are looking for, Lotts said.

The Makerspace in downtown Staunton is a great way for Lotts to explore different tools to work his creative magic.

Staunton ‘makerspace’ gives anyone a high-tech workshop

“Because of the Makerspace, it’s opened up my eyes,” he said.
