When you look around the library at Nevada High School, you will see all the typical things expected in a school library. There are books, computers, tables for studying and, of course, a 3-D printer and 3-D scanner. Yes, Nevada has a 3-D printer and a 3-D scanner. Nevada’s library is more than the simple study space available in most schools.

Students who come to the library could do their homework or they could create and print a three-dimensional gyroscope in the 3-D printer. This creative corner is called a Makerspace, and it is open to students at all times of the day. There are no rules or sign-up sheets, students only need their imaginations and some free time if they wish to use the space.

“The Makerspace is a place for kids to try and (sometimes) fail. Failing is a key part of the learning process, figuring out what will work and what won’t,” said Carrie Hillman,…
