St. Mary’s Episcopal School celebrated the grand opening and dedication of its new library and various learning spaces for lower school students on Sept. 4.
Liza’s Library, named after Eliza Fletcher, who was a junior kindergarten teacher at St. Mary’s at the time of her murder, is specifically for lower school students, grades kindergarten through 5th.
“It is really wonderful to see the look on the girls’ faces when they come in and see this brand new library with a hearth and reading nook and places to study and places (to be) comfortable, and then they see things that are familiar from the old library,” said head of schools Albert Throckmorton.
The new space, located in Moss Hall on the St. Mary’s campus, features near floor-to-ceiling bookshelves, American Girl Dolls, student-created artwork on display and a large tree on the back wall.
