The Forum Theatre on Main Street in Metuchen has long stood as a borough landmark and the centerpiece for the creation of the Metuchen Arts District.
But as some of the privately owned historic buildings across Main Street from the Forum have been demolished over the last year in anticipation of possible redevelopment, borough officials are now looking to expand the arts district with complementary uses.
The Borough Council recently introduced an ordinance expanding the Arts District Redevelopment Plan to expanded areas along Main Street, Amboy Avenue and a parking lot totaling about 8 acres. A public hearing on the plan is scheduled for the June 26 meeting.
