The Kildare County Library, Archives and Cultural Centre will be made up of a ‘cluster’ of buildings and will incorporate the original 1930s Art Deco library. However, a 1970s addition to the original building will be demolished.
The new buildings will be largely three-storey, with the third storey stepped back from the street.
The 2,320m² scheme will also feature contemporary library collections, archival and local studies collections and quiet reading spaces, as well as a 100-person events room, a maker space and a business suite.
The development, for Kildare County Council. also includes a sensory garden, a courtyard garden adjoining the events space, and a public square around the site. Large windows will look on to Liffey Park and bring ample natural light to the reading rooms.
