Creative hub encourages Staten Islanders to ‘make, invent and collaborate’

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — Not all heroes wear capes; some hold paint brushes and power tools.

When DB Lampman and Scott Van Campen founded MakerSpace almost six years, they couldn’t possibly have imagined what it would become.

The 6,000-square-foot community workspace at 450 Front St. offers tools, equipment and resources for local builders, thinkers, artists and more.

Across the street is Maker Park, a sculpture garden that allows passersby to enjoy free public art while Instagram influencers can up their photo game. Oh, and the area also happens to play host to MakerPark Radio.

And, recently, MakerSpace opened a second location in the Brooklyn Army Terminal. The expansion was prompted after MakerSpace was selected by the city Economic Development Corp. to take part in a Futureworks NYC initiative, which is focused on supporting and growing modern manufacturing by providing accessible…
