Twelve costumed burros walked down Grand Avenue in Mancos after participating in an obstacle course competition during the fourth annual Burrofest in June. The festival brings together burros and artists to highlight their talents and contributions to the town. Each artist chooses a burro to be their muse and model and creates a representation of “their” animal in the medium of their choice.
The event, put on by the Mancos Creative District, drew 1,200 people to the town of 1,221 residents, said Nathan Schmidt, who serves on the board of the district, one of 30 certified Creative Districts in Colorado.
