I loved the recent New York Times article and photo essay titled “A Love Letter to Libraries.” The poetic piece documents how modern public libraries are no longer defined by the number of books in circulation, but rather by their amenities and atmosphere, making them feel more like community centers.
Picture this: parents reading to toddlers in a space filled with books and toys just for them; families gathered for story time; tweens and teens meeting up with friends in a safe, free place; guest lectures for older adults, on topics such as travel, art and history; community services such as computers, printers, voter registration and a Notary Public; and a library staff ready to help patrons find anything they need.
