Del Mar College will be receiving $10.6 million to be used in various ways to help the school recover from the COVID-19 pandemic.
In December 2020, former President Trump signed the Coronavirus Response and Relief Supplemental Appropriations Act, a $22 billion stimulus package to serve students and ensure learning continues during the ongoing pandemic.
Del Mar College president Mark Escamilla announced the funds in the Board of Regents meeting Tuesday.
“We know that at least $1.9 million will be distributed directly to students to help with tuition, books, food, housing and child care, amongst other expenses,” Escamilla said. “(Another) $8.6 will be up to the college to defer expenses with the coronavirus pandemic including past losses of revenues due to the various areas impacted by the virus.”
