The Strand gets DRI grants for theater and arts center

Two Plattsburgh landmarks are set to undergo some changes soon. The Strand Center for the Arts and the Strand Center Theater has been awarded Downtown Revitalization Initiative (DRI) grants from New York State totaling $755,000.So far it’s planned that $260,000 of the grant money will go towards things like restoring the theater.The remaining $495,000 will help develop a maker-space in the former Federal Building where people will be able to use different types of technology, like 3D printers. Joshua Kretser, a board member at the Strand Center for the Arts, explained how important the grants are and the impact they will make. “Not only will people be able to enjoy live entertainment here at the Strand Center theater, but they’ll also be able to learn new skills, work with cutting edge technology next door in the Strand Center.
