Loudoun opens a ‘maker space’ for creative projects at Gum Spring Library

The Loudoun County Public Library has opened a “maker space” at the Gum Spring Library in Stone Ridge for people who have the urge to create.

In a brief ceremony last week, library officials opened the MILL (Makers in Loudoun Libraries) Studio on the second floor of the library. The space includes three 3-D printers, a 3-D printing gun, an electronic cutting machine, a soundproof booth for recording audio and video, and simple robotics technology.

The studio, which cost less than $100,000, was funded with unspent proffer money from developments in the area, said Mike Van Campen, deputy director of the library system.
