LODI — Students at the borough’s high school will soon have access to a more hands-on learning experience, when a former wood shop classroom is turned into a classroom for the future.
The Board of Education decided at their Jan. 23 meeting that instead of renovating two science labs, they would move forward on plans to upgrade one and to create a “maker space,” or an engineering lab in the former shop class.
“We started talking about something called a maker space. It is something up and coming,” Superintendent Frank Quatrone said. “It is something we feel will reach out to more students to spark innovative thinking, computer skills, technology, analytical thinking. It’s a host of many, many opportunities.”
The district planned to spend $1.5 million from their 2018-19 budget for the renovations, so they already have the funding. By approving this now, officials hope to have a plan…
