The Erie Board of Trustees passed the 2024 budget on a 4-2 vote during Tuesday’s meeting. Trustees Brandon Bell and Andrew Sawusch voted against the budget and Mayor Justin Brooks was not in attendance.
Town Administrator Malcolm Fleming, Finance Manager Cassie Bethune and Finance Director Victoria Runkle presented the budget to the board, which includes a 25% reserve for cases of emergency or economic downturn.
Bethune and Runkle said the budget prioritizes the town’s growth, fiscal responsibility, protecting natural resources, environmental safety and a prosperous economy. They explained how money from the general fund will be used for capital projects. Some of those projects include the Erie Makerspace, public safety equipment, street maintenance projects and town facility improvements.
