The annual year-end roundup of local news in the arts

Roxie Zwicker, author, filmmaker, multi-media entertainer and owner of New England Curiosities, above, and Sam Baltrusis, TV personality and actor of "Paranormal Rewind" fame, launched the first Wicked Virtual Film Festival in 2020 on the night before Halloween.

Per tradition, here’s a 2020 Gossip News Round-up, in addition to the Top Arts Stories of the Year feature. It’s been a strange, expansive, Whack-A-Mole year; nothing art-related has been normal since March. This column even went dark from April until July, and the weekly EDGE Magazine, where this column has been published for decades, hasn’t yet returned.

Still, plans were made (and changed), new initiatives launched, and milestones were met. Here’s a few of the notable Gossip Column stories of 2020. 

Dover Art Center residency founded

A new Artist-in-Residence program was launched at The Art Center in Dover, courtesy of owner Rebecca Proctor and collaborator Peter Henry of Market Square Jewelers.

Each four-month residency comes with a studio, art-business training, exhibition opportunity, and lots of free workshops – total value $2,500.

The program marks its first anniversary…
