Grade 5 students at Coxheath Elementary School are learning firsthand being kind makes you happy.
As part of their health studies class, the students knitted tuques for people experiencing homelessness which they donated to the Salvation Army in Sydney on Dec. 16 for distribution.
Using a loom to make the hats, teacher Sandra Gates said students had different sizes of looms so they could make various sizes of winter hats. Over six weeks, the students knitted 50 hats of various sizes to fit small babies up to adults.
“They were so pumped to give Major Corey (Vincent) their hats yesterday, they were just so excited,” said Gates during a FaceTime interview on Dec. 17.
