Sept. 25 meeting
At our Sept. 25, meeting, District Governor Herb Smith gave an inspirational speech about what Rotary means to him. This year’s theme is Create Hope in the World. We encourage members to remember the words of Desmond Tutu: “Hope is being able to see light despite all the darkness.”
Herb says he serves with the motto, “You can have fun and still get a lot done to help the world.”
He noted that Rotarian Paul Herzig has been a member for over 40 years and Rotary Sergeant-At-Arms Jim Plotts for 56 years.
In February, Herb will jump in the Susquehanna River as part of the Polar Bear Plunge to eradicate polio. Last year they raised $27,000 at the event.
