On Tuesday evening, a small crowd gathered in the auditorium of the George Coon Public Library to discuss the planned expansion project. This public hearing was part of the requirements for the grant funding the library is applying for.
This grant funding was first discussed at a fiscal court meeting in July, when Judge Executive Kota Young explained that he was looking for “shovel ready” projects for the Community Development Block Grant (CDBG). Library Director Nichelle Faughn had shared the planned library expansion project with Young years ago, and he felt that the project could be a good fit.
