GE Appliances’ makerspace, FirstBuild, hopes to foster a creative, collaborative space for those who want to bring their inventions to life.Several GE Appliances engineers work full-time at FirstBuild, solving problems and thinking of new ideas for the company. After 5 p.m., the space becomes open to the public. “We love to be around other creatives,” said Andre Zdanow, the executive director at FirstBuild. “being around other creatives and seeing how people solve problems helps us. Sometimes we learn something that we can apply to a totally different problem.”The space has several rooms. One with more user-friendly equipment like power tools, 3D printers and woodcutters.
