The Erie County Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Commission, or Diverse Erie, voted to award grants Thursday to three Erie-area organizations that help empower the Black, Indigenous and people of color community.
Erie’s Black Wall Street, the Erie Center for Arts and Technology and the Youth Leadership Institute of Erie were each awarded $100,000 as part of the commission’s second round of Generational Impact grants.
The awardees were among 19 applicants for the grant, a number that was narrowed by the commission’s grants review committee with the help of consultant 3iNetworking.
“The committee believes the selected three projects will bring the most meaningful impact for generational changes in the Black, Indigenous and people of color community,” said Gary Lee, Diverse Erie chief administrative officer.
