On Feb. 15, the Jessamine County Public Library (JCPL) began construction on an expanded Creative Space.
The Creative Space is a facility within the library which connects customers to innovative creative tools and collaborative learning opportunities. Such facilities, known as “makerspaces,” became widespread throughout the 2010’s and beyond.
“Technology plays a crucial role in education,” Shantel Richardson, the library’s Customer Technology Librarian, told the Jessamine Journal. “Makerspaces help students learn at their own pace and explore their creativity.”
In December 2022, the library’s Board of Trustees voted in favor of expanding the space. Construction work is being carried out by Jarboe Construction. Work on the new space is planned for completion in May 2023.
