NEWTOWN — The Board of Selectmen, meeting Monday and Wednesday, January 23 and 25, continued budget deliberations for 2023-24 budget proposal.
Selectmen reviewed the request from the Parks and Recreation Department, which represents an overall department budget increase of 4.48 percent.
The department would like to add a full-time clerk; savings have been identified within the budget to allow for $38,000 without an additional increase.
Amy E. W. Mangold, director, said that person would help increase efficiency by providing services and avoiding high turnover and associated retraining efforts.
The most significant budget driver is salaries and benefits but inflation has impacted the budget.
