Abilene ISD projects keep one eye on COVID-19, the other on finish lines

COVID-19 has had little effect on the progress of construction among the Abilene Independent School District’s most anticipated projects.

That’s according to the two project managers at the two largest projects associated with the record $138.7 million bond voters approved in November 2018.

While there have been few cases affecting labor, there have been minor setbacks regarding materials, especially at the LIFT Center, being built on Loop 322.

Wally Lunde, project manager for Sedalco, said insulation shops, for example, are struggling with about 60% capacity workforce on their end.

It leads to delays in product arriving on site, Lunde said.

“We can do a lot if we have the materials in hand,” Lunde said. “We can’t do anything without them.”

Lunde is particularly sympathetic to this. Earlier this year, he was out of work due to the coronavirus shutdown that took place across Texas in March…
