There’s certainly a lot of space in the Abilene Independent School District’s newest elementary school. It was designed that way.
One of two new campuses in the district this year, Dyess Elementary opened its new doors — and the rest of the facility — to students for the first day of classes Thursday.
Also new is the district’s LIFT Center.
Dyess students will take up a lot of the empty space in the classrooms, cafeteria, gymnasium and maker space/library. But there are other spaces perfect for teachers to fill with their things.
Music educator Alan Jones, for example, who gest to fill some of the emptiness with special boxes that every Dyess Elementary fifth-grade student understands.
“We have 121 boxes of costumes and props,” Jones said. “And we have room for all of them.”
