FISHERSVILLE – Matt Frenger took his work home with him Wednesday night.
On the dining room table, he placed a 3D printer that he brought home from the Augusta County Library, where he’s a system technician.
Frenger is working to produce 3D face shields for use by healthcare workers as protection against the coronavirus COVID-19. He got the idea for the shields, the design of which is approved by the National Institutes of Health, and a colleague reached out to Augusta Health.
“They were very receptive, very excited that we were going to do this for them,” Frenger said.
The hospital ordered 400 shields, which run about $1.30 per shield. As of Thursday Frenger had produced 32 and had already delivered 20. He estimates it will take him three weeks to produce the rest.
