Joel Leonard of Asheboro awarded for creating North Carolina mobile makerspace

N.C. Rep. Jon Hardister presented Joel Leonard, of Asheboro, with a North Carolina state flag that had been flown over the state capitol building in his honor.

An Asheboro resident was recognized by N.C. Rep. Jon Hardister for creating the first mobile makerspace in North Carolina. 

Joel Leonard developed Makesboro U.S.A, which contains equipment used in manufacturing plants. Leonard takes the mobile makerspace into rural areas to teach people about tools and equipment that can help them in future careers. 

On Saturday, Hardister presented Leonard with a state flag that had been flown over the N.C. Legislative building in his honor. Leonard was honored for his creation of the makerspace as well as “years of working with workforce development organizations and his international efforts to help build the next generation of engineers, maintenance professionals and manufacturing employees,” according to a news release. 

While in Asheboro, Hardister was shown the mobile makerspace, which contains a CNC machine, a laser printer and 3-D printer….
