Although the college’s campus is closed, staff at the makerspace, including student employees, have taken the 3D printers home and are working around the clock to print face shield components.
“They’re working off-and-on 24/7,” said Gay Krause, executive director of the Krause Center for Innovation at Foothill College, which the makerspace is part of. “It’s quite a commitment from them to be doing that.”
Foothill College is taking part in a broader initiative organized by Maker Nexus, a nonprofit makerspace in Sunnyvale. Maker Nexus is coordinating a broad network of individuals and organizations that are creating the face shield components.
