The Selwyn Public Library will bring in some cutting-edge technology thanks to a $78,200 provincial grant.
A permanent makerspace will be added to the Lakefield branch with the funding, which came through the Resilient Communities Fund from the Ontario Trillium Foundation.
The makerspace will be the first permanent such space in the county. Makerspaces incorporate 3D printing, laser cutting and other emerging manufacturing technology, offering an opportunity for students, members of the public and entrepreneurs to learn about the business and economic advantages these technologies offer.
“This will also create potential opportunities for local, small business startups within our community, allowing community members to discover and explore new equipment without the financial burden of purchasing the expensive capital items themselves,” states a township press release.
